2024 was another productive year at The Meeting Place Tobermory.
We’re excited about all that we have been able to offer the community! Here are last year’s highlights.
• We distributed 801 Good to Go Meal Kits (the equivalent of 3,204 meals), 38% of which were distributed for free (an 8% rise from last year). In these kits, we used 347 kg (or 762 lbs) of rescued food.
• We brought 165 Good Food Boxes to our community, and 60% of those were provided for free.
• We launched our E-bike Rental program for visitors, helping 104 users rent e-bikes for 130 trips.
• We launched an Affordable Transportation program where 2 bikes were rented to resident seasonal workers at a subsidized cost.
• We ran a 12-week FoodFit program to teach participants about nutrition and movement while making new friends.
• We had another record-breaking Community Volunteer Tax Incentive Program. This year, 116 people’s taxes were completed. This program is offered at no cost to help ensure people get a timely tax return and avoid interruptions in receiving government benefits.
• SOAR after-school program had 17 children attend for free during 13 sessions.
• We continued to host Open Mic through the winter and spring months of 2024, showcasing local talent and providing entertainment to many people!
• We coordinated room reservations with community groups, ranging from Bruce Trail Conservancy volunteer meetings to first aid training. Over the year, 95 meetings took place.
• We partnered with And-Rod Construction to host a ‘Pig Roast in the Park’ showcasing the completed pavilion as an outdoor music event venue.
• We distributed 30 free Home Energy kits, providing residents with energy-saving products to save them money and reduce emissions.
• The Community Information and Resource Coordination program supported 17 people over 50 visits throughout 2024.
Our major funders were essential collaborators in all of these accomplishments. We thank The United Way of Bruce Grey, Grey Bruce Community Foundation, Community Food Centres Canada, Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula and Bruce County. We are so grateful to our fantastic volunteer team, who helped us make this all possible.
